Mutants Have Favorites Too

I decided to follow the example of Anastasia and let a few different characters give a list of their favorite things. The mutants are an interesting bunch, or well I think so but I might be biased. So, here are some of the mutants and their list of favorites.

Noah: Hi, it's me again. Seems I post in blogs often these days. This one should be easy. Here is the list of some of my favorite things.
1. My friends and family
2. Electricity (even though I hate the mutation, I also love it, weird I know)
3. My boyfriend
4. History
5. Physics
6. Reading
7. Helping Dominic keep his dreams organized and trying to interpret them
8. Dominic (I know I said friends but he's such a good one he gets his one spot)
9. Cats
10. Coffee

Dominic: Oh, my turn. *reads* Noah is so nice, I don't know what I'd do without him. So, my list isn't too surprising.
1. Noah
2. Sleep
3. Dreams
4. Caffeine (coffee, espresso, etc)
5. Food
6. umm Showers, when I don't fall asleep during them
7. Noah
8. Going out of the house occasionally
9. The band Noah got me that helps me stay awake longer
10. SS

1. Philosophy
2. Family
3. Noah
4. Friends
5. Military
6. Books
7. Questions
8. Organization
That's all I can think of, so 8 will have to do.

Ephram: My turn? Oh, okay. I have favorites, I think.

6. Pizza
7. A bed would be nice to have
8. Clean clothes
9. Spending time outside
10. Being able to buy food.

5 Unknown Facts from Mutant World

Noah here. Dawn is distracted so I'm just going to do this week's post. Plus she has no idea which world to discuss for this list of 5 things about the story that isn't told in the actual novel. I'm going to come up with five, hopefully, that are from the mutant series, or at least the part of it that has my story.

Let's see...

1. Ty used to be my best friend. This was before I became friends with Dominic. In fact, I didn't really like Dom when we were younger.

2. I wanted to study history in college and become a teacher. I dreamed about being normal simply so I could have a normal job and not worry about things like joining mutant organizations or worry if the government changes how they let us live.

3. There are religious groups in my world but they aren't seen in the current book, though there is the rest of the series to possibly showcase them.

4. My mom still wants a girl but will probably never have one. She has a box in her room that has a couple of little girl items.

5. The organization, SS, was designed by the government. Despite what some people think, still works for the government and has to report on a monthly basis to a special coordinator.

That's all I can think of for now but I made it to 5. That's what counts... right?

Elijah Has A Secret

Noah enters a small coffee shop in Detroit. The door is unlocked but the sign says closed. No one is in the main room and most of the baked items have been put away. Finally, a young dark haired male enters the room from the back behind the counter.

"We're closed."

"I noticed. Are you Elijah?" Noah moves to a small table closest to the counter, picking a seat and settles in as he watches the man.

"Yes." Elijah tosses a rag on the counter, not stepping out from behind the counter. "Do I know you?"

Noah smiles. "Not yet. I'm Noah, from a different story. Dawn wanted me to come chat with you for this blog post."

"Oh right. Well, nice to meet you Noah." Joining him at the table, Elijah shakes his hand before sitting down. He looks a little uncomfortable and tired. "What are we supposed to talk about?"

"Something that happened before you died and became umm you know, what you are."

"Oh." He looks down at the table, his hands fold together underneath as if he is trying to hide the nervousness he feels over the topic.

Sensing the tension, Noah waits for a moment as he tries to come up with the best way to approach the topic he has been given. After some thought, he offers the question that seems least expected. "So... You're gay, right?"

Caught off guard, Elijah blinks and looks around the room to make sure they are alone before answering. "Yeah... why? Are you?"

"Of course. I mean, Dawn created us after all." He chuckles but the mood doesn't stay light for long as he brings out another question. "Does anyone else know you are?"

"Now? Yeah, they do. I kind of had to tell them after I almost slept with a guy I had just met. I had to confess to it." This got a slight smile from Elijah. It is short lived as he continues speaking, "before when I was alive, I did tell my parents. I was only 12 and probably should have waited because they responded even worse than the angels in the confession group."

Noah got up and went over to the one container of coffee that hasn't been put away yet. He fills two cups, bringing them back to the table with a few packs of sugar and hands a cup to Elijah. "Parents. I know the feeling. My mom didn't care but my dad was pissed when he actually found out."

"Thanks." He sips the coffee. "Both my parents were upset. They sent me to counselors, church officials and even considered sending me away to a place that claimed it could turn me straight."

"Sounds a bit harsh."

"And they were actually considering allowing electroshock treatment." Elijah pauses before trying to explain further. "Electroshock is when they..."

"I know what it is. I control electricity and have a degree in physics. What did you do?" He winced as he sipped the already cooling coffee.

Elijah looks away, absently stirring a spoon in the half drank cup of coffee. "I figured I was screwed anyways, so I did whatever and whoever I wanted. Finally, when I was fourteen I got tired of the therapists and my parents constant trying to change me so I snuck away and went home with a guy."

Noah watched him intently, trying not to stare too much, as he listens.

"I was mad and just planned to have sex with him a few times, then I'd go back home but when we went to a bar after he let me use a fake ID, that changed. There was this really hot guy there that everyone seemed to want. No one thought I stood a chance so I took the challenge and tried to get him to sleep with me." Pausing, Elijah picks at a pack of sugar, pretending to read the label.

"Did you succeed?"

Elijah nods. "Yeah, though I would rather not say what I did to convince him. But eventually he had sex with me. I was tired after, so he let me sleep in one of the small side rooms they had. When I woke up, the door was locked and I couldn't get out."

"What do you mean? What happened?" He couldn't drink the coffee anymore and he couldn't look away either.

"It turned out the man I had convinced to use me ran a prostitution ring. They forced me to take part. I tried to escape but there were too many of them." Elijah doesn't look up at Noah. He is still playing with the sugar packet and eventually tears it open, spilling the sugar onto the table. "It was several months before the police raid and I finally saw my family again. I died a couple years later."

"Wow." Noah isn't sure what else to say. He hadn't quite expected the discussion to go to such a dark place. "Does anyone know about all this in your story?"

He shakes his head. "No. No one really knows. Well, one knows some of the details since he manages the group but other than that I haven't told anyone yet. It's not easy to talk about and most of them wouldn't understand. The others are having a hard enough time with the whole being gay part."

Moving his chair, Noah put his arm around Elijah. He rubs his back as Elijah rests his head on his shoulder. "Thanks for telling me. You've obviously been through a lot. But things are better now aren't they?"

"They are better. Thanks for listening."

Dominic Talks About Noah

Dominic takes over the computer as Dawn naps.

I'm late but it's because Dawn isn't feeling good. She has a cold and took some medicine. So, it's up to me to do this post. It's about the main character, Noah.

I have known him for a long time. We went to school together though at first we weren't friends, not even close. He spent all of his time hanging out with that other guy, Ty. They were always doing pranks and getting in trouble, even though Noah tried to be nice about anything they did. He was way nicer than Ty anyways but Ty has always been kind of a jerk.

I'm not sure exactly what happened but one prank went wrong and Noah changed. He stopped hanging out with Ty and even quite using his powers for fun. In fact, now that I think about it, that was when his tests stalled. He was marked as having the most potential of all the mutants at the school, though now all were mutants, just a majority. Noah was predicted to be one of the strongest they had ever seen but he hasn't reached that potential, though I think he's faking that he can't do more. After Ty left because he wouldn't follow the rules things changed more. I started talking to Noah a bit more since I never liked Ty and eventually we became friends.

Then, well... then my parents died. I had no one and Noah was there for me. His family let me stay at their house though his dad never liked me. I think he didn't like that I was sleeping in the same room as his son. He always suspected I might be gay, though he seemed not to notice his son was definitely gay too. And then they did something I didn't expect and I'm sure Noah had a lot to do with it. They bought a place for me to live.

Noah lives there with me, for now. I guess what I'm trying to say is Noah is complex. He has these amazing abilities that he keeps hidden, very little ego and an amazing amount of kindness. He truly cares and never acts fake about anything. I don't know what I would have done with him.

Name Confusion Conversation

Noah enters the room with a cup of coffee and settles down at a booth in the back away from most of the other tables even though the little coffee shop is empty. He checks his watch and then sips the very tall cup of coffee as he waits. After ten minutes, a disheveled teen makes his way to the back table carrying a tray with a hamburger and fries. It is Isaac and he joins Noah before saying anything.

Isaac: Did you want a burger? or fries? You can have some of mine if you want.

Noah: No thanks. I'm not hungry.

Isaac: *eats for the next several minutes, sometimes talking with his mouth full* So, umm.. Noah. You're from the future?

Noah: Yep. *sees him about to talk through fries and decided to explain to avoid it* Since my book is years from your first one, Dawn has me here now even though at your age in the stories I wouldn't be much more than you. I think we're going  to meet officially when you're an adult some point in the series.

Isaac: How old are you now? I mean, future version, but how old would you be if not the future is okay too.

Noah: 26, would be 17 or 18, something like that. But we're not here to talk about me.

Isaac: Right. *munches on fries and takes a drink from a glass of soda* Why did she send you for this again?

Noah: Something about it being more interesting to have two of us instead of her and you. Plus, I think she said I had to learn from this topic since I may need to use a different name in the future. Let's get to the topic cause my boyfriend isn't very patient right now and he might worry if I take too long.

Isaac: Fine. What's the topic again?

Noah: *sighs, then is relieved when another cup of coffee magically appears* Your name. It is Isaac here but if people read the beginning of the first book you're in they may be confused because you are called Casper then. Mind explaining the reasons for that?

Isaac: Oh right, that. Uhhm, sure, why not. I had to use a fake name for school because I have to avoid the men in suits. They are after me because of my mutation and they killed my parents. Casper is one of like 4 names I've chosen and found ID cards for so I can still go to school but not worry about getting caught, though it doesn't always work out that way.

Noah: Men in suits?

Isaac: Yeah. I don't know what they are called but they always wear suits. There are women too, Ephram just refers to them as the men in suits as well since the girl ones aren't as common.

Noah: Oh, you mean the agency that monitors mutants. Okay. Is it confusing having more than one name?

Isaac: Very. I try to only use one name at a time and I have only used three of the names so far but sometimes I forget about which one I'm using. That never ends well.

Noah: Not looking forward to that. Any name suggestions?

Isaac: *looks Noah over* Fred? no.. umm Rostafa? Julie? *giggles*

Noah stands from the table, shaking his head. He takes one of the last fries from Isaac's plate and walks away.

Isaac: *yells after Noah* I was kidding.

Still laughing, Isaac gets another soda before leaving.

Noah and Lucas write introductions

Hello, fellow bloggers and readers. Dawn here. I have a quick introduction then I'll let the two characters I have for this week that will take over. Since we are actually doing two posts for introductions I have two main characters for this post, and one of them is going to introduce others from his world since he has already guest posted before about just himself. Or at least, back when he was at the end of book 3, which is why I'm speaking first. Since I have only the first draft of book 1 in his series done, and because some of the characters involved are teens (posting on this blog as well in the next introduction), I'm going to have him post from where he was at in book 1 (Standing Ground). The old post can be found here: Noah's guest post.  If this gets long, my apologies, for I have to let the second main character speak, Lucas, because I can't have him and Elijah in the same post yet even though they are the two main characters of a paranormal romance. So, with all that said, here is Noah and his introduction of important people from book 1.

Noah

Noah: Hello. *gives a quick wave* I am Noah, a genetic mutant from Dawn's books. We were once a guest, so I'm happy to be a more permanent member of the blog now. Last time I posted mostly about my mutation and some of the struggles I go through in this series but I think this time I'll talk about those that are involved with me. We're only talking the first section of troubles, right?

Dawn: Right.
Dominic

Noah: Okay. I had just finished a double major in physics and military science. The last part was because my father insisted and he did pay for the schooling but I really wanted to study physics to give myself a better understanding of energy. I can control it but don't like people knowing what I am capable of doing. I spent the last several years living in two locations: my parents' house and my best friend's apartment (Dominic) that they helped pay for. Dominic has been my best friend since we were in school. He's also a mutant though his power is a confusing type of prophetic dreaming that requires he be asleep more often than not. In fact, he'd say hello right now but he's sleeping.

Noah: Then there is my boyfriend Sebastian, though he hates to be called by his full first name. He prefers to be called Bastian. I met him at the beginning of when Dawn started writing the story. At first, he's a bit nervous and in less shape because he didn't work out too much and preferred to study or read. His major was philosophy but then he joins the military and things change. Some of the changes were better than others. He isn't a mutant though, and at first he didn't think I was either despite how I look. I should have told him as it probably would have turned out better than him finding out the way he did but it turns out he doesn't care that I am.
Bastian

Noah: Finally, there are a few that I'd like to mention but don't worry, there aren't any pictures of them yet. These are important if you consider the whole story and not just what gets placed in book 1, though readers meet them there. They are the first set of "rogue mutants" I ever meet, though they certainly aren't the last ones. Two of them were once friends, though after a falling out they had to leave the school so I hadn't seen them since we were teens. First is the somewhat leader, Ty. He is a bit of a jerk and he would often get me into trouble. Ty had to leave because they wanted to stop him from using his mutation too often because he was what could be called a copy cat as he could imitate almost any other mutation if given the opportunity. Along with him as the weather controller, Kelvin, who had trouble controlling his emotions and thus sometimes the weather. The new ones they bring are Michael and Camile. Camile seems to be a bit hard edged and she controls wind. On the other hand, Michael seems very nice compared to the others and he's kind of cute... I mean, he umm controls both fire and ice. Not sure how they all met up but when they get around to telling their side of things I may find out.

Noah: That's all I will mention for now since I'm taking up a lot of space and there is still the demon who is supposed to introduce himself this post. Sorry about rambling and I'm sure I'll be posting again soon.

Lucas

Lucas: Umm, hi. *puts hands in pocket and looks around* This is a bit different. I've done the chats before on that twitter thing and once in a regular chat room but this is my first blog. Guess it'll be nice to do something outside the whole demon crap I have to deal with nowadays. Being a demon sucks. Don't let anyone fool you with all that chat about fire and eternal heat with no snow because it's a lie! I'm stuck in Detroit where I spend my days freezing cold. Other than that, I guess things could be worse considering. Hard to believe that not having a belief in God would put me here but I'm doing my best to make due with the whole situation. Other than the whole, non-dead type thing, being a demon is rather boring. I don't shoot fire from my hands or anything cool like that. Right now, I'm living on another demons couch and we work without pay delivering messages around the area. Aside from the cold, there is a feeling of emptiness that I'm still trying to figure out. It's a dull aching type of emptiness and I definitely have no direction. For now, I'm lost but can only hope that until whatever rapture type disaster comes for my marked soul that I can make the best of this "life" as a demon.  That's all I really have to say for now. *walks away*

Guest: Dawn Embers and Noah

I am honored to introduce our first guest blogger, Dawn Embers, and her extremely cool mutant hero, Noah. Dawn and Noah will be joining us again on Saturday for this week's Chat Party. ~J.D. Brown

Hello blog viewers. I am Dawn Embers, a fiction writer that also met Anastasia and JD on Writing.com. Yes, we're taking over blogger. (lol) I've been writing seriously for over 5 years but I was creating stories for fun with my imagination since I was 5 years old. My favorite genre is fantasy, in many different subgenres, but I'm not limited to the single genre. Not published yet, but am working on getting the first books in my mutant series ready to query. 5 other novels are in different stages of production as well.

Currently working on two mutant novels (different ones), one paranormal romance, steampunk world-building for novel, romance/erotica novella and potential dystopian. Fun stuff. Most are adult but I do some YA as well.

The character you get to meet today is from the adult mutant series, Rogues of Revolution. One book is written so far, and the rest will get an outline while I prepare book 1 to eventually query. The main character is Noah. For the character chat, I pulled him from the end of book 3, before book 4 in this series. I'll give his physical characteristics and then let him talk for himself so you can really get to know him.

Age; 29
Hair: white
Eyes: bright blue
Power: electricity (energy)

The rest is up to you, Noah.

Noah: Gee thanks. Um, Hi people out there. My name is Noah and yes, I do have a last name but it's not as safe for me to give mine with the revolution still going. It's hard to believe things have gone this far and to think how naive I was back in book one.

What am I supposed to talk about again?

Dawn: Yourself. Tell them about your powers and what happened so they don't get confused by the chat that happened.

Noah: Okay. So, I have this mutation. Both my parents had mutated DNA and that was furthered in me and my brother. Unlike my brother, however, is the fact that my so called powers aren't similar to Mom or Dad. I create and control energy, which is often seen as electricity. They used to always talk about the potential I had, or have. But I try not to use it as much as possible because I don't want to be used as a weapon. I don't want to hurt anyone.

It might sound cool to manipulate energy, to shock people or mess with lights of an entire city, but it's really not. Hurting someone, seriously and the risk of killing anyone makes it a nightmare that I wish I could wake up from. But I can't.

When I was younger, I was a bit more naive about the whole situation. I got a degree in physics and military science. The military was for my dad because I hate war and violence in general. I refused to join the military and the government regulated mutant group that my parents were both members for, which really pissed my father off. When giving a choice between working for them or the government directly, I chose to disappear instead. So, I have to be careful because there are people still looking for me, and many of the other mutants in the revolution. They call us rogues but they don't know how organized we really are.

For the last few years I've been a leader within the underground mutant revolution. We're fighting the government restrictions and the allowance for us mutants to be treated like we're not quite human. It's not easy and we have so far to go but no one is ready to give up yet even with the losses we've suffered... I've suffered.

Is this good enough? I don't want to talk about losing him.

Dawn: Okay. You can be done and I'll work on your first book soon for you doing this. Thank you Anastasia and JD for having us here and at the character chat. We had fun.
